Sequel to the outstanding The Bourne Identity
and based on Robert Ludlem’s series of novels, The Bourne Supremacy
is a great sequel. A Russian assassin has planted evidence linking the
murder of a US operative in Berlin, to Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). As the US
intelligence community traces the evidence, they reopen their manhunt for
Bourne, spear headed by Pamela Landy.
After the disbanding of the Treadstone project,
Jason Bourne slipped of the grid into anonymity with Marie and has been
living in India. Their life is interrupted when the Russian assassin and the
CIA come looking for Bourne to tie up loose ends. Meanwhile, the amnesia
plagued Bourne has been haunted by the fragmented memories of his former
life, and only he may hold the key to unraveling why he was framed
The Bourne Supremacy
reenlists the talents of Brian Cox and Julia Stiles as members of the
disbanded Treadstone project. is a welcomed addition to the Bourne Series,
and Matt Damon shines as always. The real star of the film is the non-stop
action and pacing. The sequel has everything people loved about the first,
but faster and more intense. The car chase towards the end of the movie is
the best and most realistic ever filmed. The Bourne Supremacy’s
gritty action style makes the film that much more realistic and believable,
thereby more entertaining.
The first film was a sleeper, but grew in
popularity by word of mouth and had an excellent shelf life on video. It
only stands to reason the sequel would be considered a blockbuster.
Unfortunately with the attempt to try and make the story even more of a
smash hit, the filmmakers made some classic mistakes.
The biggest flaws in The Bourne Supremacy
come from recycled plot points. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal these points
because they are the films, supposed, biggest surprises. But, if you have
seen any amount of action films, you’ll have guessed these surprises way
before they happen. Additionally, since these plot points have been
regurgitated over and over again; the dialogue is extremely weak…because it
has been regurgitated over and over again.
This would have been the most incredible film
but for its plot. Like the first film, Supremacy is an original
story, and really only has subtle thematic elements that echo with Robert
Ludlem’s novel. While the novel’s story is more intriguing, the filmmaking
and outstanding action sequences overshadow these minor imperfections,
making The Bourne Supremacy a worthy sequel to the original. Now
audiences will have to wait with baited breath for the expected part three. |
