Welcome to TODD L BAUERLE.com!

5 December 2008

At 00:22 in the morning of Friday, December 5th, 2008, Tavin LeRoy Bauerle was born, weighing 7 lbs 15oz, and 20cm long. Tavin's Birth Day was a quiet one. We spent much of time on the phone, visiting with a few dear friends, and of course...napping. Pictures can be found, here.

1 December 2008

Just added pictures of Halloween and Thanksgiving 2008!

19 October 2008

PHOTOGRAPHS! I have been wanting to add photo albums to this website for years. I had held off for quite a while because I figured it would take a lot to format, make thumbnails, and ultimately upload everything. I've never had that kind of time to devote to that kind of project.

Thankfully, I found this simple album generator for free. Check out and download the Web Album Generator, here. This utility was very easy to use, and allows the user to easily make titles and add captions to photos. The layout isn't the best, but with a simple click this program creates a thumbnail navigation bar and resized pictures for you. I love it.

So, I have added two new albums for family and friends to view! First, I know everyone is dying to see Jenafer pregnant, so here is your chance. Second, people have been asking for pictures of the new house. So go check them out here.

I'll be uploading more albums in the future with pictures taken over the last ten years or so. BUT, it will probably take me a while. Feel free to send me an email if there are specific pictures you would like to see. I also have that huge project of scanning pictures and negatives from my lifetime, which in itself is a lifetime activity.

Anywho...enjoy!

Update!

So I decided to add some Halloween albums from 2006 and 2007. Enjoy!

In six months, everything can change.

I have continually postponed my entrance to the graduate program at University of Phoenix.

Jenafer and I have changed jobs and moved to Riverton, Utah to work in a new home for latency age boys!

Most importantly, we found out Jenafer was pregnant in May and just over two months pregnant already! This caused many of the changes in our lives to happen, and on December 8th, 2008...we welcome our new baby boy into the world (give or take a few days).

It all started back in March when we were talking about wanting to have children in the near future. We needed to leave the group home we were at because licensing did not allow young natural children in that home. Thinking we were going to be changing employment this summer, I held off on graduate school. You can't really start a program like that without really knowing what your work will look like.

All of a sudden we find out Jenafer is pregnant by complete accident. Now we have a time crunch to get moved, and the sooner the better. Things were not going quite so well at work and we were looking into leaving Utah Youth Village. My mom and dad both said that "Every baby comes with its own supply," and somehow we managed to get a position that allowed us to stay with the agency and work with kids. We moved into a new home in Riverton and are now taking care of younger boys. The time table for the move was bumped up from September to the first part of August, we we were in a bit of a rush.

Now we just need to get unpacked and move everything in and settle within the next month. We want to have enough time to get the nursery prepared and have a few weeks before Jen is due. I don't want to say "We can't wait," because it feels like everything is moving too fast...but we are excited. This Christmas brings a lot, that's for sure....

20 March 2008

Good news, all! A few weeks ago, I finished my graduate 'portfolio' course at University of Phoenix, essentially a weed out class and a six week long interview. Well, I was accepted into the Master of Mental Health Counseling program. Officially, the real courses begin on April 1st. Wish me luck!

17 January 2008

Hello! I'm doing some site updates around here, and hope to not be such a stranger in the future. I finally got around to transferring all my web files over to my laptop so I can update while I work!

So far, I've updated the Education section of the site. I am going to University of Phoenix and pursuing a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling. Orientation begins on January 22nd...and I'm quite a bit nervous.

09 June 2007

Sounds like a group home...

That's an inside joke ... both funny, and not. Needless to say, its been a long, crazy, busy spring. We were short staffed at the group home for nearly four months, and we were pretty exhausted. But SUMMER TIME is here. Wait...that means the kids are out of school...

...oh well.

Good news is I took an opportunity to update a few things on this site, including all my bio information that hadn't been updated since before our move to Utah last year. Check it out...along with the addition of my 'professional bio' with my plans to move forward on a career as therapist and counselor!

Also, for some strange reason, I now have a MySpace ... and so does my wife. I don't know why...but I have found resistance to be futile. (Which pretty much means I wasn't going to have my wife with an account and not have her husband and her number one friend!!!!)

Insecure...maybe...but bizarre fun none the less.

Still, it is Movie Season! I'll hopefully be posting reviews of all those films I've seen this summer soon!

15 February 2007

Things are in motion...

On Saturday, February 10th, Barack Obama announced his official candidacy for the President of the United States in 2008! This is the first step in a long race toward the primary elections of early 2008. Ever since I saw Barack give the keynote address during the Democratic National Convention in 2004, I knew this man would have my vote in 2008. Its been great to see the nation stand behind him more and more.

For more information on Barack and his stance on the issues, pick up his new book, The Audacity of Hope, or check out his website www.barackobama.com. I will be attending a meeting for the group Utah for Obama this Saturday, February 17th in Salt Lake, more info here.

Further, one great litmus test for Presidential politics has been the Select Smart website, and their Presidential Candidate Selector for 2008. This seems to be a pretty great overview of the major issues, where you vote your opinion and rank the order of issue importance. This year I am 100% behind Barack, and second place goes to the same person who won my vote in 2004, Dennis Kucinich.

For some that know me, they probably know I used to be a very staunch Republican...'Ditto-head' and all. I spent the better part of this decade revisiting my political beliefs and decided the Democratic party, flaws and all, better suited my political and ideological beliefs. During the next year, I'll be revisiting this transformation and sharing my views and what I have learned about myself.

To begin, I wrote a two-part essay, Why President Bush Won the Election & The Nation Divided, in 2004. Within this essay, I revisited the election and examined my views on the state of the nation. In early 2006, I wrote another essay regarding the minimum wage in the country titled, Raising the Minimum Wage: A Band-aid on a Gushing Head Wound. These essays provide of taste of my political beliefs.

More on the way in the future...

7 February 2007

Music is the soul breathing...

...and here's a chance to hear my soul breathe. Quite a while ago, I started playing around mixing songs from favorite artists. I've decided to share a few remixes that I created for you to give a listen to. Up for download as MP3 are Depeche Mode's I Feel Loved (TLB Original Mix) and Erasure's Don't Say You Love Me (TLB's A Bit More Than The Minimum Mix). Check them out in the new REMIXED! section, here.

P.S. - Not than anyone is really visiting the section...BUT...in case you wonder why you can't access the forum, its because it has been under a barrage of attacks from pornography spammers. Like people really click all those links, anyways. I guess it serves me right for leaving the door open, so to speak. Death to spammers!!!!

A picture is worth a thousand words...

Well, that's what they say, and I hope they are right...because I've been lacking words lately. Since I can't get it in gear with writing letters and letting everyone know what's going on...maybe you can just see for yourself! Below are several photo albums online at oFoto.com for you to look at. Yes, that mean's you'll have to jet on over to www.ofoto.com and register so you can see my photos. But the good news is, you'll also be able to order any prints if you want. Regardless, enjoy the slide shows of the last few months.

Halloween 2006

I hope you enjoyed my several thousand words...I mean the pictures...I'll write more soon! Real words next time, too!

22 December 2006 - Periodic Life Updates DID NOT Return!

Happy holidays everyone!

I'm a big loser...mostly because I have not been in contact with pretty much anyone since our move to Utah last May. For some reason, sending out a simple email to everyone is nearly impossible for me. Oh well...just know its not a reflection on any of our friends and family personally.

Perhaps its just the nature of the beast here. Our eight foster boys are wonderful, and can be a handful. On our days off its usually dinner and a movie or three away from the house...and when we're here...vegetation seems to be more intriguing than we are. Ah... the curse of Direct TV. Its either TiVo or the Colbert Report that hooks me. I've finally kicked my CNN habit after being extremely satisfied with the mid-term elections.

Speaking of which...you have to check out Barak Obama's new book, The Audacity of Hope, which is in bookstores right now. I'm telling you guys...if this guy ever decides to run for President...he'll get the nomination and potentially the Oval Office. In 2004, I said this guy would be the first African-American President...and may well be. I have had his official website under Links ever since then.

Politics aside...I hope some people are hitting the movies and video stores for some darn fine films lately. I'll be checking in soon to put up a list of my favorite 2006 films...but just for starters you can't miss SUPERMAN RETURNS, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, THE LAKE HOUSE, and INVINCIBLE from this summer. They are all on video so pick them up. As for the cinema...don't miss BOBBY, THE DEPARTED, or A GOOD YEAR...and CASINO ROYALE should make the tops as well. What is still in theatres for certain is STRANGER THAN FICTION, incredible film. Also, THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS looks incredible...but I have yet to see it.

Well I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and a Merry Christmas! If I get ambitious today, perhaps I'll upload some pictures for everyone to see.

Happy Holidays,

Todd

27 August 2006 - Periodic Life Updates Return!

Well, we've made it through our first Utah summer...I think. We kept waiting for it to get hot...but it never happened. Since its getting cooler, I assume we're through. Can't say I missed that 118 degrees in July in Arizona...HA!

Our foster boys go back to school tomorrow...Yippee! We made it through summer!

Hopefully now both Jenafer and I will have more time to keep in touch and shoot emails off to everyone. If anyone remembers, back when I first moved away from home, I sent 'Periodic Life Updates' every once in a while....and I'm bringing the title back and re-numbering. I'll try my best to get one off this next week or so.

Last month, Jen and I took off for Boise, Idaho to catch a reunion concert for Toad the Wet Sprocket, and had a blast. I'll try and get some pictures up soon, what a blast!

For now, know we're still alive and well...well, we're alive. Tired, but alive. Thank goodness school is on!

11 July 2006

Hey Everyone!

Its been a while since any update of real substance...and for good reason. Last April, I expanded my work search out of state since the job market in Arizona left quite a bit to be desired. To make a long story short, I quickly received several replies from opportunities in Utah. I began to make arrangements for interviews, and one couples position began to take shape quickly.

Needless to say, Jenafer and I interviewed over the phone twice and were asked for a face-to-face interview immediately. We drove up to Utah days later, interviewed and got the job! Training began the following Monday...but we were stuck in Utah with a blown transmission...so for two weeks, there we stayed. After our one week training, we had a mere five days to pack up our entire apartment in Tempe, and move the near 700 miles to our new home! It was nearly impossible to pack in such a short time, but even more impossible was contacting all our friends and family to tell them the news...sorry for those who we didn't get a chance to see before we left.

Our new employer is Utah Youth Village, a non-profit organization. The Village is a leader in Utah for foster care placements for the Juvenile Justice System and Department of Child and Family Services. Both Jenafer and I work as Treatment Foster Parents at one of the Village's group homes in the Salt Lake City area. We live at the home in an attached apartment, and have two full-time associates who help us care for the boys. Currently we have eight boys (the maximum in the home) ages 12 to 17, with treatment lasting anywhere from 12 to 18 months on average.

We are basically Foster Parents in every sense. Our responsibility is to teach the boys life skills that will  help them overcome their past and prepare for the future. All boys are in the public school system, and we work with teachers, caseworkers, judges and parents to help each progress and improve.

We are starting our seventh week, and we have been completely exhausted for the entire time...but we love every minute of it! I will be sending out an email to friends and family with all the details as soon as possible. The reason it has taken so long is we either don't have a lot of time off...or have been busy unpacking our apartment. Now that things are slowing down...we shouldn't be completely out of contact anymore! Feel free to drop us an email!

25 April 2006

With renewed vigor being thrust into the campaign to raise the minimum wage, I figured I better get vocal with my article (found here) entitled, "Raising the Minimum Wage: A Band-Aid on a gushing head wound."

I guess it's not hard to tell where I stand. Check out the rest of my E-pinions.

28 March 2006

In case you haven't heard, HBO's latest 'hit series' is Big Love is quite a controversy.

It's the story of a suburban polygamist living in Salt Lake City. Questions are abound: "Does this show negatively portray the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and if so, How?" Well, as a member of the LDS Church, I was immediately intrigued!

Email chain letters have begun flying back and forth between LDS Members, trying to cancel the series. Hot heads from the LDS Membership and Anti-Mormons are engaging in heated forum debates. Even the LDS Church has released official statements on the show. This is a Big Deal.

I have actually seen the show, at least the first two episodes. Some of what you have heard is true. Some of what you have heard is not. Is there anything LDS Members can do? I think so...but first things first! Its time to get informed and educated!

Toward that end, I have written out a detailed, lengthy essay that combines a brief history of the church and plural marriage doctrine, with official statements from HBO and the LDS Church, along with factual information on what exactly is in Big Love's episodes. All this, so you too can be informed and avoid the hype and misinformation!

Take the time and read it. It's long, but at least you'll be educated. Then, email the link to anyone who feel might be interested in the story, educating them as well! The article can be found, here filed with the rest of my E-pinions.

8 February 2006

I just spent some time updating my resume, and posted the new version here...under Resume!

18 January 2006

Amazing! 2006 is already going by too quickly!

Just an FYI, I have added a forum to the site for movie, music, religion, and political discussion as well as anything else. This is brought on by the regretful closing of my favorite online community, DSA. I've extended an open invitation to friends from that site to swing buy and post here. If you decide not to post, know that you'll be missed!!

The forum is open to all who want to register and post. I'll swing by all the time, in fact I may end up camping there, but make the place a community, please. Invite people you wish and I'll do the same.

The forum will always be available at www.toddlbauerle.com/forum/. Please bookmark that page or this index. (If anyone has trouble seeing the javascript menu, please email me.)

I'll be seeing you!
